Using custom ipsw files you will preserve your baseband meaning that you can unlock your devices after you have Jailbroken idevice using custom ipsw file. If you or on an iOS version and needs unlock then the BEST and safest option is to upgrade to 6.1.2 using CUSTOM ipsw files. after using these custom ipsw file you can then use Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock your devices. The newer devices can be jailbreaked using evasi0n jailbreak method but for these newer devices there is no custom ipsw files. So if you upgrade the newer device to iOS 6.1.2 then the baseband will also be upgraded. So these custom ipsw files are only for older pre A5 devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4^th gen)!!

1- Download the custom iOS 6.1.2 and Connect idevice to iTunes 

2- And BACKUP your device first!! 

3- Because when upgrading using custom ipsw you will lose all data so backup and when u have upgraded to 6.12 you can restore all from backup

4- Save SHSH blobs using iFaith or tinyumbrella (this if you want to downgrade remember only and only pre A5 devices can be downgraded once you have upgraded to 6.1.2

5- now put idevice in DFU mode (use ireb to enter DFU mode if you don’t know how to do that)

6- iTunes will say iDevice is in restore mode 

7- here press keyboard SHIFT key and at the same time click restore button in itunes see the picture 

8-  

9- Browse to the custom iOS 6.12 ipsw file you have downloaded and start restore process

10- If you get error 3194 then Delete sauriks server from hosts file in order to get rid of errors during upgrade. Open the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and delete the following entry : 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

11- IF YOU GET ERROR 16xx :

1- use pwangetool, redsn0w, iReb , sn0wbreeze to enter DFU mode

2- delete sauriks server from hosts file and then also after that CLEAR the DNS cache

12- When jailbreak is successful then open Cydia update if there are new updates

13- To Unlock your device search Cydia for Ultrasn0w install and that’s all
